Art Vs Design Infographic

For the purpose of this assignment, the goal was to create awareness on the difference that exists between art and design and why it is important to differentiate the two. Since most people considered art and design to be the same, it is important to draw a line between the two because despite their similarities, the two are very different fields. I believe I was successful because my final work was able to demonstrate the difference between the two and their impacts. I was able to point out factors that people may be relying on when making the assumption that art and design are the same and then went ahead to show how the two were different.

At first, I found it challenging to decide what information to convey in my infographic. The topic on art vs. design is very wide as the discussion has carried on for years with people on one side arguing that art and design are the same while others pointing out how the two are different. The decision to show how art and design are different was inspired by my desire to bring to light the effects that differentiating art from design will have. In my infographic, I selected the points that were of the most importance because this was the best way to ensure that my message was received. Therefore, I decided to start with the definition of art and design and concluded by stating their differences.

When choosing images for my infographic, I decided to pick images that clearly stood out as either design or art. Rather than using images of complete pieces of work or design, I decided to use the materials used to make designs or art such as paint brushes and drawing materials. This was intended to educate my audience on the different materials used for both art and design and how they are used to achieve their respective results. I was able to do away with the confusion that people might have had had I used images of complete art work and a design had people failed to notice the difference.

Although design and art are two different fields, they both try to be as appealing to their audience as possible. Because of this, I decided to also make my infographic as appealing as possible by using different color schemes and designs to make it stand out. I decided to use bold headings with stylish calligraphy blended with attractive color to give the infographic a unique appearance. The color schemes and structure would assist in making the work more coherent and have more emphasis on its contents and in doing so, have a more positive impact. I also tried to ensure that the organization of the material was in a way that was easy to understand and direct to the point.

Given more time, I would try to improve on the appearance of my infographic so that it reflects both the artistic and design side. Doing so would help those who view it do differentiate art from design even before they read the contents. I would also add more images of the two fields to help in demonstrating how art is different from design. The infographic was different from my blog posts in that it was more direct to the point. It only stated direct points while the blog posts were more descriptive. With the infographic, I was able to use images to show the difference between art and design, a fete that would be harder to achieve when using words alone.
